GREAT REVIEWS from Inb4track and [sic] Magazine!

"3 Moons’ Astronomy Of Dreams is no vague horoscope or zen Themic balance, however, for its deep ley lines intersect on the paths of myth, religion and the cosmos. Slo-mo space-rocker “Nazi Zuni Lulu Annunaki”, for example, is a hodgepodge of Mesopotamian deities and First Nation imagery, its creeping retro-futurist synth playing off against buzzing low-end. The well-travelled “Snake From Blood To Sky IV”, too, is all over the temporal map, solemn piano providing stability to the misfiring and foreboding electronics, the doomed combination conjuring the band playing on as the Titanic sinks – except this ship’s a hovercraft and it’s being overrun with Sentinel squid." - Gannon @ [sic] Magazine

"It would appear that blues music has seen its final day long ago but in fact it is still very much alive, just in a different form and 3 Moons makes that apparent on this LP. On ‘Astronomy of Dreams’ the blues are infused with an array of syrupy psychedelic atmosphere. Traditional structure takes a back seat in favor of more prog forward, slow moving free form jams that build with cosmic intensity."

BLACK OR WHITE ORPHEUS : VOTIVE TRANSMUTATION SHRINE

Grant Corum & Jefferson Zurna present:

"Black or White Orpheus is a sprawling 34 minute slow burning spell infused sonic dream and totally psychedelic jam, murky and lo-fi, Zurna's guitar unfurls in sheets of blurred sound that slowly coalesce into soaring wail melding with plenty of distant chant motifs in the mesmerizing blur creating a medieval space jam. To those familiar with the trance grooves and tropical ceremonial mythology that have riddled Corum's recordings for the past few years, this "Black or White Orpheus" album is a surprisingly dark brooding composition, but one that doesn't detour from his manifestations of free-will. For this album, Corum and Zurna have drawn a parallel from the ancient theologic texts of Orpheus and modern tragic tale of a ghost of doom past, Michael Jackson, creating a an evolving, choral requiem prefaced by a reflection on MJ'S rise, and delcline, symbolizing a sacrificial child for vice worship culture. The set runs from thin, metallic tones forming into detailed helix patterns in a way that evokes the more minimal sides through starry keyboard patterns which in turn parts to reveal the kinda hallucinatory weave you might associate with Corum's work. Opening with tinkling bells, long drawn out tones on some sort of horn, all very meditative and spiritual, with monk like chants woven into the fluttering field of shimmer and tinkle. It is affectingly reprised in the album's final track morphing into ascendant celebratory sonic sprawl of looped vocal drone mesmer, and an utterly absorbing one. Overall BOWO is a patient, edgy, atmospheric use of interwoven voice, guitar, and electronics creating a hypnotic work with woozy textures of bells, harp, viking horns and haunting vocals feeling that somewhere in the distance the silhouettes of mysterious hooded worshipers make a thunderous accent from the glowing underworld and into the skies. The result is a broody, eclectic and at times minimalistic fusion that alternately drone menacingly and truly pulse like heartbeats through the magickal ceremony. Highly Recommended!"

"7 Planets 7 Days" at Human Resources, Los Angeles, April 2014

3 Moons performed live as the house orchestra for a series of ceremonial invocations of the Planetary Rulers (and namesakes) of the days of the week.  These ritual acts were worked by Ossian and La Porsha Winningham for Moon (Monday), Mars (Tuesday), and Mercury (Wednesday) on April 14, 15 and 16, respectively at Human Resources Gallery in Chinatown, Los Angeles.  Each night the music performed alongside their dramatic theatrical performances corresponded to scales and modes associated with these daily planetary forces by ancient Greek musical philosopher-mystics such as Pythagoreas, Aristides, Quintilianus, and Ptolemy. According these esteemed teachers, each of the planets our weekdays are named after corresond to musical "modes", which are like scales. Modes differ from scales in that it is the interval between each of the pitches that determine the mode. In other words it is a set of intervals between notes. So any of the modes can be played with any pitch as the root note. The root notes selected correspond to the properties of the governing planet, according to greek magical tradition. Each of the modes were known for their ability to strongly induce different feelings and states of awareness, such as, calm, violence, mystery, courage, libido, etc. Each planet and mode also have a long list of interdisciplinary correspondences such as colors, tarot keys, ritual events, virtues, hours, periodic elements, sexual positions, and out of body realms. It was with this in mind that 3 Moons composed the framework for improvisations for each of the invokations

Last of the Line

Here is a 20 minute compilation of excerpts from "Last of the Line," a theatrical musical by Andy Neubauer, Kinko Malada, Alina B. & Jefferson Zurna, based upon the album "Cacophony" by legendary schizoteric punk band Rudimentary Peni.  It was staged in secret at exacty 11:11 pm on the hidden loading dock of [un-named local business] before a large bike-in audience.  Most of the script, and virtually all of the un-narrated passages, though quite re-arranged were taken directly from Nick Blinko's ingenious lyrics for the album, which he in turn based upon the writings of inter-dimensional horror writer H.P. Lovecraft. The unparalleled flights of lyrical narration were composed by Neubaur.

REMOTE CONTROL POST-SCRIPT

3 Moons lived and traveled in an old Ford Chinook Motorhome from March 2013 to January 2014. We crossed many rivers, borders, deserts, oceans, forests, plains, mountains, and skies.  From Washinton State, the many worlds of California, down into Mexico, across the Great Plains, and back along this wide circle several times over.  With our "Rolling Infusion Apothecary" in tow,  our guitars,e horns, electric piano, and electronics, and Ratchet-tone to guide us, we had an amazing, nealry year long adventure.  Many thanks to all the many friends, allies, and accomplices that contributed in innumerable ways to this Fitzcaraldo-esque project.  Also thanks to "Triple A".  We penetrated the Lodge of the Black Butterfly, and humbled ourselves in the Sanctuary of the Sunwomb.  Now we will rest thankfully in the Ice-Blue Heart Crystal of Minneapolis, MN for the winter months.  Over the long miles we compiled a few live recordings, as partly evidenced by this new tape cassette release "REMOTE CONTROL SPHINX".  RCS is a representation of the "instrumental" quasi-improvisational shadow side of our live sets from this tour, and includes recordings from some of the shows, a live-in-studio radio broadcast, a privately performed solo improvisation, and a spontaneous basement collaboration.  All the material was recorded "live" by stereo condensers except the live broadcast (which if you must know utilized 4 sm58s), and it is all "instrumental".  We are looking forward to finishing our studio album "Astronomy of Dreams"  this winter which features the songs we have been singing on this trip and some brand new ones as well.
